DSCN3012Michelle is a public health nutrition specialist with over ten years of work experience spanning across North America, Africa and Asia. Her technical expertise includes program design, strategic planning, and policy implementation for small and large-scale nutrition programs. Among her specialty areas are infant and young child feeding, maternal and child nutrition, HIV/AIDS and nutrition, micronutrient initiatives, and behavior change communication approaches.

 

Specific Areas of Expertise and Experiences

Infant and Young Child Feeding

  • Developed a strategic framework for accelerating infant and young child feeding programs in India
  • Led the design and implementation of a large-scale behavior change communication initiative to improve infant and young child nutrition in Sierra Leone
  • Advocated for culturally specific and evidence-based policy improvement for infant feeding in the context of HIV/AIDS in Namibia and Sierra Leone

HIV/AIDS and Nutrition

  • Designed and implemented the first-ever training program and national guidelines on nutrition management with HIV/AIDS for health care workers in Namibia
  • Provided technical assistance to national and state-level programs on integration of nutrition into HIV/AIDS treatment programs in Namibia and India
  • Led nutrition service expansion for persons living with HIV/AIDS, to include hands-on workshops and cooking demonstrations to promote program sustainability and positive living, in the Washington DC metro area in USA

General Nutrition

  • Advocated for improved multi-sectoral approaches to food insecurity and malnutrition in Namibia and Sierra Leone
  • Conducted nutrition landscape analysis for large donor wishing to invest in child malnutrition programs in India
  • Forged partnerships among key nutrition stakeholders wanting to implement nutrition and food security programs in Sierra Leone
